Roll

2min

Roll is a rotation around the object's local X-axis. This means that the object's X-axis remains pointing in the same direction, but its Y-axis and Z-axis rotate around it.

Roll is often used to orient objects in 3D space. For example, a car might be rolled so that its wheels are facing forward. Roll can also be used to create special effects, such as making an object appear to spin.

Here are some of the benefits of using roll:

  • Simple: Roll is a simple rotation that is easy to understand and implement.
  • Flexible: Roll can be used to orient objects in a variety of ways.
  • Efficient: Roll can be implemented efficiently, which makes it ideal for use in real-time applications.

Here are some of the drawbacks of using roll:

  • Can be disorienting: If used too much, roll can make an object appear disorienting or unnatural.
  • Can be difficult to control: Roll can be difficult to control, especially in complex scenes.
  • May not be suitable for all applications: Roll may not be suitable for all applications, such as flight simulators or racing games.

Overall, roll is a powerful and versatile rotation that can be used to orient objects in 3D space and create special effects. However, it is important to be aware of its potential drawbacks, such as its ability to disorient the user and its difficulty in controlling.
